We strive to be a beacon of faith and learning, rooted in the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah, promoting harmony within the Muslim community and the broader society.

Mission Statement

Masjid Al Noor in Masterton is a welcoming Islamic Center. Masjid Al Noor is where the Muslim community in Masterton and Wairarapa gather for daily prayers and learning. We aim to establish a complete Islamic Centre where people come together to offer five times congregational prayers. Open to all residents and visitors, we promote the right Islamic Aqeeda (beliefs), knowledge, and manners. We foster unity and enrich our diverse and caring community through community and cultural events. We create a strong learning culture and provide opportunities for meaningful religious and social activities. Our outreach efforts nurture both spiritual growth and social cohesion, promoting harmony in Greater Wellington and New Zealand.

Masjid: Center of Faith and Togetherness

A Masjid (mosque) is an Islamic centre for prayer and worship. The word Masjid originates from the Arabic word Sajada (سَجَدَ), which means to prostrate, hence a Masjid (مَسْجَد) is a place of prayer. It unites Muslims for Salah (prayer), community activities, and education. They feature a Mihrab (niche) for the Imam (prayer leader) and often a minaret for the call to prayer. During prayer, Muslims face the Kaaba in Mecca, with the imam leading from the mihrab.

At Taubah (سورة التوبة) - Quran 9:18

The mosques of Allah are inhabited by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day, establish prayer, pay alms (charity/zakat), and fear none but Allah. Such people can be expected to be among those who take the right path.

The people who should rightfully build mosques are those who believe in Allah and the last Prophet. They establish prayer, give zakat, and fear no one except Allah. This reflects the orderly function of the masjid: it begins with iman, focusing on faith in Allah and the Last Day. The masjid becomes a place of reminder, where salah is established, and the community gathers. It helps identify those who deserve zakat and serves as a community centre, offering spiritual and communal strength. These are the people considered guided.

These verses teach us the spirit of building an Islamic Center. Today, there is a beautiful proliferation of mosques, but the intention and vision behind them must be clear. An Islamic Center should be a place to remember Allah, heal people spiritually, foster community, and help those in need. When built with these intentions, the Mosque feels alive, and the intention can be felt through its walls.
